Basic Science Research

The Basic Science Research Division is dedicated to the study of anesthetic mechanisms and molecular pharmacology, neurophysiology, biophysics, biochemistry, and cardiac physiology. The Department of Anesthesiology has many NIH-funded principal investigators.

Basic Science research conducted by the Department of Anesthesiology is featured in several of the world’s most prominent scientific and specialty journals, including NatureProceedings of the National Academy of SciencesJournal of NeuroscienceNatural Structure & Molecular BiologyNeuronEMBO JournalAnesthesiologyPLOS ONE, and the Journal of Neurophysiology

Our basic scientists and links to their research and labs are featured below. The laboratories have trained a significant number of postdoctoral fellows who have gone on to successful research careers. Research opportunities exist for students of all levels.
