Weill Cornell Anesthesiology played host to the Seventh NYC TEE Conference on the evening of Wednesday, November 13, bringing together members of the cardiothoracic anesthesiology community from five different institutions in New York City-area. Several area fellows presented cases at the conference, including Weill Cornell Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology Fellow Dr. Siavosh Saatee.
The NYC TEE Conference is a regular forum designed to increase knowledge about TEE - Transesophageal Echocardiography. TEE is a diagnostic procedure that is used to compliment traditional external echocardiography to view heart and valve function, as well as the aorta and pericardium. TEE is an invasive procedure that is done during most cardiac surgeries to provide information that guides surgical and medical decision-making.
The NYC TEE Conference brings together attending physicians, fellows, CRNAs, and senior residents who are interested or who specialize in TEE and Cardiac Anesthesiology. Fellows deliver presentations that describe interesting cases or research findings, which are discussed by the multi-institutional group. The design of the conference is to foster discussion about these issues, and give all participants a chance to learn from each other and improve patient care.
This year’s conference was organized at Weill Cornell by Dr. Meghann Fitzgerald and Dr. Nikolaos Skubas, and also by Dr. Jeremy Poppers from Columbia University. In addition to program presentations, the conference featured a reception hosted by Weill Cornell Anesthesiology in the Anesthesiology Library. The program was well attended, with approximately fifty attendings, fellows, CRNAs, and residents participating.
