Celebrating 75 Years of Excellence

Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology's 75th anniversary celebration in 2023! On this page we're excited to share events and activities related to the department's milestone year. We are also gathering reflections on our 75 year journey and invite you to join us — please follow the instructions below for ways to contribute. 

In 1948, Dr. Joseph Artusio was appointed to lead a newly-created division of anesthesiology within the Department of Surgery at The New York Hospital. Over the next two decades, the division would grow to become an independent department of anesthesiology at the hospital in 1957, and at Cornell University Medical College in 1967.
