Dr. Matthew Perlstein Receives Best of Meeting Recognition at SCA

An abstract submitted by Matthew Perlstein, a resident in the class of 2020, was awarded Best of Meeting Oral Abstract Presentation at the Society of Cardiovascular Anesthesiologists (SCA) 40th Annual Meeting & Workshops held in Phoenix on April 28-May 2.

Co-authors are Dr. Robert White, Gulce Askin, Dr. Robert Bowen and Dr. Lisa Rong.

Department of Anesthesiology resident Dr. Robert White was honored on April 23 with an inaugural Dean’s Diversity and Healthcare Disparity Research Award. For a few tense moments, onlookers in the Skills Acquisition and Innovation Laboratory (SAIL) watched the monitors as a routine appendectomy took a turn for the worse. The patient, a lifelike manikin, was having an anaphylactic reaction to a medication. Within minutes, anesthesiology residents Hannah Xu and Grace Shih, assisted by Melvin La and Maria Walline, had the situation under control.
