Weill Cornell Medicine's Department of Anesthesiology has been awarded the Center of Excellence designation from the Society for Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP). The award recognizes centers that demonstrate excellent obstetric anesthesia care.
Nationally, Weill Cornell Medicine Anesthesiology is one of only 39 centers to receive this designation.
In granting the award, SOAP recognized the obstetric anesthesiology division’s “very high quality care and use of best practices” in the following categories: personnel and staffing, equipment, protocols and policies, Cesarean delivery management, labor analgesia management, recommendations and guideline implementation, and quality assurance.
"The division has implemented many initiatives to achieve this designation, including ERAS protocols, PPH transfusion algorithms, offering CSE for labor analgesia, and efforts to minimize hypothermia and decrease opioid use postpartum," said Dr. Sharon Abramovitz, director of the obstetric anesthesiology division.
The division also includes Drs. Jaime Aaronson, Alaeldin Darwich, Farida Gadalla, Klaus Kjaer, Nathan Liu, Danielle McCullough, Jon Samuels, Jennifer Wagner and Jason White. Dr. Robert White is currently the obstetric anesthesiology fellow.
