Researchers from the Department of Anesthesiology’s Basic Science Research labs presented their work at the 60th Annual Meeting of the Biophysical Society, held February 27 to March 2 in Los Angeles. The event brings together leading scientists in the multidisciplinary fields of biophysics from around the world.

Dorothy Kim, PhD, presenting research from the Nimigean Laboratory
Among those presenting were Alessio Accardi, PhD, Associate Professor of Physiology and Biophysics in Anesthesiology, who presented his newest findings on the mechanisms of ion and lipid transport by scramblases.
Crina Nimigean, PhD participated in a symposium on Voltage Sensing and Gating, presenting her laboratory's work on the molecular locations of gates in potassium channels. Dr. Nimigean is Associate Professor of Physiology and Biophysics in Anesthesiology.
Researchers Mattia Malvezzi, PhD and Dorothy Kim, PhD presented posters on their current research. Also attending the meeting were Karl Herold, MD, PhD; David Posson, PhD; and Hugh Hemmings, Jr., MD, PhD. Dr. Hemmings is the Joseph F. Artusio, Jr. Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology.
Founded in 1958, the Biophysical Society was established to encourage development and dissemination of knowledge in biophysics.
