At NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital (LMH), our anesthesiologists provide expert care across a wide range of surgical and procedural cases in a welcoming community hospital setting with 186 beds. In addition to perioperative anesthesia, our team plays a vital role in hospital-wide patient safety, responding to airway emergencies in adult and pediatric emergency departments, inpatient units, obstetric delivery rooms, and the neonatal intensive care unit.
We take pride in our collaborative, team-based approach to care. Our anesthesiologists work closely with colleagues in the ICU, internal medicine, emergency medicine, and surgical departments to ensure seamless communication and continuity of care.
Serving the Heart of Lower Manhattan
Located between the Financial District and Tribeca, LMH serves a vibrant and diverse community that reflects the cultural richness of New York City. Our patient population is representative of the city’s global character, with many languages spoken and a wide range of cultural backgrounds. This diversity strengthens our commitment to culturally competent, inclusive care and enhances the depth of our clinical practice.
Surgical and Procedural Services at LMH
NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital (LMH) supports a robust surgical program, with over 4,000 cases performed annually. Our surgical case mix includes orthopedics, orthopedic spine, general surgery, gynecology, urology, and vascular procedures, reflecting the diverse needs of our patient population.
Regional anesthesia is a central feature of our practice, with approximately 750 regional blocks performed each year. On this campus, each anesthesiologist performs their own blocks—there is no separate block team. This model allows us to provide consistent regional anesthesia coverage — including overnights, weekends, and holidays — ensuring timely and personalized care around the clock.
LMH has a busy endoscopy service. We provide anesthesia care for 150 to 190 GI procedures per month. Cases are both inpatient and outpatient and range from routine screenings to urgent and emergency interventions.
Compassionate Obstetric Anesthesia at LMH
Our obstetric anesthesia team provides expert care for over 2,000 deliveries annually, offering a full spectrum of pain management options. In addition to neuraxial analgesia, LMH is proud to be one of the few centers in the region to offer nitrous oxide as an alternative for labor analgesia, giving patients more choices in how they manage their birth experience.
Our labor and delivery suites have recently undergone a complete renovation, creating a modern, comfortable environment for families. Within the coming year, our postpartum facilities will also be fully upgraded, with all rooms converted to private accommodations across two dedicated floors.
We specialize in high-risk obstetric anesthesia, providing thorough antenatal consultations for patients with complex medical conditions. Through multidisciplinary planning, we ensure safe and personalized care throughout the peripartum period.
To further enhance the patient experience, LMH offers prenatal anesthesia group video information sessions for expectant mothers. These sessions are designed to help reduce anxiety, improve satisfaction, and streamline preoperative planning. LMH is currently the only NewYork-Presbyterian site offering this innovative and patient-centered program.
