Cornell Anesthesiology officially has a biannual tradition with the Resident-Faculty softball game, and the faculty — unfortunately — officially has a losing streak to break!
The sunniest part of this entire past weekend in NYC was the few hours of reprieve we received from the rain, in order for the second departmental softball game to be played in Central Park. Everyone had a blast; nine innings flew by and if it weren’t for one horrendous defensive play by yours truly which led to a 6-run resident inning, I think the faculty might have ended up on top.
We ended the summer on a warm, festive night at our Chair’s annual barbecue next door at Rockefeller University.
And we are now at that point in the year where the academic program is in full swing and many of us are getting ready to travel to Chicago for the ASA’s national meeting in a few weeks; we will then quickly return home to begin our recruitment season! I hope to meet many interested applicants on Saturday, October 21 at the Residency Program Meet and Greet.
Our interns have already finished the first quarter of their year and as each batch comes through to complete their three months of anesthesiology, we are really enjoying getting to know them and universally impressed with their performance. On the other side of the residency, our CA-3 class has done exceedingly well in their academic pursuits; year after year, our graduates match for fellowships in premiere programs but the Class of 2017 is really standing out. In July, a whopping 14/20 CA-3s will be starting fellowships in pediatric, regional, pain, cardiac, obstetric, regional and thoracic fellowships at the following programs:
Cornell (cardiac, pain, regional, thoracic); Columbia (ob); HSS (regional); Mt. Sinai West (regional); CHOP (peds); Denver Children’s (peds); Brigham (pain); UNC (ob); UCLA (regional).
Congratulations to our CA-3s!
