It is a pleasure to announce that Dr. Jaime Aaronson and Dr. Paul Riegelhaupt will be joining the expanding education leadership team as Associate Program Directors of Cornell Anesthesiology. Jaime and Paul bring talents and interests that support our vision for the residency in challenging, energizing, and complementary ways.

Dr. Paul Riegelhaupt
Dr. Paul Riegelhaupt joined the faculty in 2016. After undergraduate training in Biology at MIT, he completed the MD/PhD program at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Following medical school, Dr. Riegelhaupt completed a research track residency in Anesthesiology at the University of California San Francisco. Dr. Riegelhaupt currently splits his time between clinical work as a member of our Neuroanesthesiology Division and basic research on ion channel physiology. In addition to his commitment to robust facial hair and chasing down balls in left field at our faculty-resident softball game, I welcome Paul to our team as the outsider: someone who will inspire us to think beyond the ways we have typically delivered our clinical and didactic programs. He also provides our trainees with yet another model of the successful clinician-scientist.

Dr. Jaime Aaronson
Dr. Jaime Aaronson received her undergraduate training at Cornell University in Ithaca and her medical degree at New York Medical College. As an alumna of our residency program, Dr. Aaronson’s passion for Cornell Anesthesiology parallels my own. After completing a fellowship in Obstetric Anesthesiology at Columbia, she returned to our department in 2014 as part of the core Obstetric Anesthesiology Division. Forever smiling, beloved by the residents, and always on the lookout for a smaller-sized set of scrubs, I am excited that Jaime, as Associate Program Director, links the residency leadership with one of our residents’ most cherished experiences: their months on 7-West Labor and Delivery.

I am honored to have Jaime and Paul on board, and know that their influences will shape and impact our residency program in big and meaningful ways in the months and years to come.
