We are actively seeking an:
Associate Director of Obstetric Anesthesiology at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens
NYPQ is a 535 certified bed hospital, academic tertiary care hospital, with a CMS 5-Star rating with 21 operating rooms, an Endoscopy Unit with four procedure rooms, a Cardiac Cath lab, two cardiac operating rooms, and a busy obstetric service. NYPQ provides anesthesia services for ~3000 deliveries per year and ~27,000 surgical procedures. The clinical work is faculty focused with a balance of work with CRNAs, and we are affiliated with multiple CRNA schools. Faculty take variable overnight in-house and pager calls and do incentivized late work as needed.
Under the guidance of the Director of OB Anesthesiology, the Associate Director will ensure clinical efficiency, and develop policies to promote patient safety and improve the patient experience. This role will include active participation in leadership, quality improvement, education, departmental presentations and collaboration with obstetric leadership.
Clinical Operations:
- Actively manage the obstetrical unit in terms of workflow, availability of resources and equipment. Ensure timely starts of elective CS and provide critical care assistance in obstetric emergencies.
- Make recommendations and lead initiatives to improve clinical workflow across anesthesiology, obstetrics and the nursing team.
- Share responsibility for scheduling consultations and completing high risk assessments with the Director.
- Serve as a resource to other providers for complex clinical decision making in obstetric anesthesia cases, especially when the Director is unavailable.
- Service recovery encounters when indicated.
Leadership and Representation. Serve as departmental representative for the following meetings: OB leadership meetings, OB anesthesia clinical leadership group, SMM committee meeting, cesarean delivery task force, OB anesthesia QA, OB patient safety huddles and RCA.
Quality and Patient Safety. Participate in regular quality reviews with goal to maintain safe patient care standards. Monitor and report safety metrics.
Data Review and Reporting. Review monthly delivery volumes, complications and key performance indicators. Prepare and submit quarterly reports to Director. Work with Director to meet all the requirements of SOAP Center of Excellence accreditation.
Education and Best Practice. Teach and mentor SRNAs and other trainees. Promote adherence to evidence-based practices in OB anesthesia (e.g., all SOAP practice guidelines, perinatal alerts). Participate, collaborate and lead drills in unit. Deliver OB anesthesia QA presentations at our monthly departmental QA meeting.
Qualifications. BC/BE anesthesiologist with fellowship training in OB anesthesia. Strong communication and collaborative skills across multidisciplinary teams. All candidates must be eligible for medical licensure in New York State.
The full-time clinical compensation range, based on experience and subspecialty training and overall seniority, ranges from $350,000 - $440,000 per annum. There is opportunity to earn additional compensation by working extra shifts.
