Weill Cornell Anesthesiology Celebrates Graduating Residents and Fellows

The Weill Cornell Department of Anesthesiology celebrated its 2016 graduating residents and fellows with a dinner and ceremony at New York's Pierre Hotel on Friday, June 3. More than 320 department members and their guests filled the Grand Ballroom for the festivities.

Following cocktails, Chair Dr. Hugh Hemmings extended his greetings to the graduates, and urged them to keep a positive attitude and see humor in all that they do. "Enjoy life," he said, because the work we do is hard."

Dr. Hemmings also observed that in addition to the training they'd received, the Class of 2016 had produced "six weddings involving seven residents," two engagements and six babies. "There's clearly been time for some extracurricular activity as well," he remarked.

The department Chair expressed gratitude to Dr. Kane Pryor, director of medical education, for his redesign of the curriculum; Dr. Cynthia Lien, vice chair of academic affairs and residency program director, for her oversight of the program; and Dr. Eric Brumberger, residency program associate director, for his dedication and efforts in "smoothing out the wrinkles."

The evening proceeded with warm wishes and gentle humor as faculty honored each of the 20 graduating residents for his or her accomplishments.

Graduation 2016

Faculty, residents and fellows take the stage at the department's 2016 graduation ceremony.

Faculty also celebrated the achievements of 19 physicians who completed fellowships in pain medicine, cardiothoracic anesthesiology, global health, obstetric anesthesiology, critical care medicine, and regional and thoracic anesthesiology.

The ceremony concluded on a high note with the presentation of awards by Drs. Pryor and Brumberger.

Congratulations to the department's 2016 graduates and award winners. They are:
