Global Health Course Awarded Cornell Grant

Twelve faculty-led projects have been awarded Internationalizing the Cornell Curriculum (ICC) grants for 2016. Among the recipients : Anesthesiology's Dr. Gunisha Kaur and Dr. Eric Brumberger, along with Cornell nutritional scientist Dr. Zhenglong Gu, for their new course, "Global Health Case Studies."

Currently being offered for the first time, the course pairs Cornell undergraduate students with Weill Cornell Medicine physicians from across the medical college. Case studies are shared by faculty who are experienced international authorities on health in the developing world.

For Kaur, the chance to teach undergraduates is especially gratifying. "We have the opportunity to influence them to think about global health not just in terms of clinical or medical care, but to think about it holistically and understand broader factors that might influence health — like poverty or environmental issues or gender violence," she noted.

Thanks to the ICC grant, this innovative collaboration between the undergraduate campus and the medical college will continue for several more years.
