Faculty from the Department of Anesthesiology traveled to Mexico City in July to participate in the Open Medical Institute's first Weill Cornell Seminar in Anesthesiology and Intensive Care hosted by OMI MEX. Department Chair Dr. Hugh Hemmings, Jr. served as the course director.
OMI MEX is a joint initiative between the Open Medical Institute (OMI) and Alianza Médica para la Salud (AMSA), a non-profit and non-governmental organization based in Mexico City. The OMI MEX seminars are three-day intensive courses in different areas of medicine that take place in Mexico and are offered to highly qualified, English-speaking physicians from Latin America. The program is based on OMI's successful Salzburg seminars, which launched in 1993.
This year, 35 fellows were selected to attend, representing nine countries across Latin America. They came together for three days of learning and engagement with faculty including Drs. Jaime Aaronson, Rebecca Martinez and John Rubin. Faculty delivered 13 lectures and two case presentation workshops on topics including neuropharmacology, obstetric and regional anesthesia, and critical care.
