Dr. Rohan Jotwani has been named editor-in-chief of the Journal of Medical Extended Reality (JMedXR), an open-access, peer-reviewed journal exploring the role of extended reality (XR) technologies in healthcare.
Established in 2023, it is the official journal of the American Medical Extended Reality Association (AMXRA) and the International Virtual Reality Healthcare Association.
“Extended reality is presently and will continue revolutionizing the way we practice medicine from its applications in medical education, digital therapeutics, surgical navigation and planning and so much more,” said Dr. Jotwani. “I am exceedingly proud of the work the journal has published so far with the help of our internationally renowned multidisciplinary editorial team, and stand firmly behind the unique role that J Med XR will have in ushering in a new era of spatial computing in medicine."
Dr. Jotwani, an assistant professor of clinical anesthesiology and pain medicine specialist, is co-founder with Dr. John Rubin of the Extended Reality Anesthesiology Immersion Lab (XRAIL) in the Department of Anesthesiology. The lab designs training programs that provide learners with immersive XR experiences, conducts simulations, and creates AI-assisted soft skills training for healthcare.
A graduate of Columbia University, Dr. Jotwani earned his medical degree and MBA at Tufts University School of Medicine. He completed his residency training at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center where he was chief resident, and completed a pain medicine fellowship at Harvard Medical School/Brigham and Women’s Hospital.
