Anesthesiology consultation is available for both inpatients and outpatients having procedures that require anesthesia (Monitored Anesthesia Care, Regional Anesthesia, and General Anesthesia).
For outpatients, the NYH-WCMC Anesthesiology Department provides consultative services in Greenberg 3 West Preadmission Testing Center (PAT) on Mondays to Fridays from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM. This is a walk-in clinic and no appointments are necessary. Patients will be registered with the Admitting Department and should bring with them a completed Preoperative Medical Questionnaire-Assessment form obtained from the procedure team’s office and any outside information (laboratory studies, electrocardiograms - EKGs, X-ray reports, stress tests, echocardiograms, consultation notes, etc…). Patients having multiple medical problems or having complex procedures should be interviewed and examined prior to the day of the surgery/procedure.
The anesthesia care team (anesthesiology resident, CRNA or nurse practitioner (NP)- supervised by an attending anesthesiologist) will evaluate the patient and complete a Preanesthesia Evaluation in the electronic medical record. The Preanesthesia Evaluation consists of the consideration of information from multiple sources that may include the patient’s medical records, interview, physical examination and findings from medical tests and evaluations. The assessments made in the process of a Preanesthesia Evaluation will be used to educate the patient, organize resources for perioperative care, and formulate plans for intraoperative care, postoperative recovery and perioperative pain management. The surgeon or procedure team will be contacted for outstanding issues.
The anesthesia care team can be reached during office hours at 212-746-3885. For anesthesia billing issues, please contact (855) 880-0343.
