Department Celebrates National CRNA Week

In celebration of National CRNA Week (January 22-28, 2017), the Department of Anesthesiology hosted two dinners to recognize the exceptional work of its Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists on the Weill Cornell Medical Center (WCMC) and Lower Manhattan Hospital (LMH) campuses.

At the WCMC event, held in the Griffis Faculty Club on January 25, speakers expressed their appreciation to the CRNA staff. Speakers included Drs. David Kopman, Vinod Malhotra, and Ralph Slepian, along with Beryl Muniz, vice president of perioperative services at NewYork-Presbyterian. Speaking at the LMH dinner on January 26 were Department Chair Dr. Hugh Hemmings, Dr. David Fishman, and Joanne Connor, director of nursing at NewYork Presbyterian.

David Graboff was this year's recipient of the Eleanor Bradley Award honoring an outstanding CRNA.

"It's really about excellence in anesthetic care and also excellence in teamwork," said Dr. David Kopman, assistant professor of anesthesiology and medical director of the CRNAs, speaking about the award. "It's important for us all to act as a team and David is 100 percent a team player. He'll go out of his way for anybody."

Eleanor Bradley, a former chief nurse anesthetist who devoted 44 years to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, attended the dinner and announcement of the award bearing her name.

Now in its 18th year, National CRNA Week is an annual celebration of anesthesia patient safety and the nation's nurse anesthetists, according to the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
